I've told a few of you about this but for those who don't know, I'll be running windsurf taster sessions at the centre on Southend Seafront this weekend. There will also be sailing and kayaking, and if you're quick a jetski or boatride. Weather is looking grand, and it's from 0930-1430 both days. Saturday is free, and Sunday a small fee. Think I'm only there Saturday though. I find the watersports a great companion for biking ... More info here:
Go riding along on the crest of a wave at Southend Marine Activities Centre’s terrific open day on Saturday 16th April.
There between 9.30am and 2.30am, you can try an exciting variety of water sports all for free.
On offer at the centre on Eastern Esplanade, Southend will be sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, as well as the chance to go on a jet ski or just enjoy a boat ride - and lots more too!
Watch the RNLI in action for a demonstration rescue at 12 noon, and don't forget to visit the stalls or sample the barbecue.
Anyone from nine to 90 or older is welcome to attend, and the event is suitable for able-bodied or disabled participants.
The day after the open day - Sunday 17th April - is also the key date marking 500 days to go to the London 2012 Paralympic Games. As part of the weekend of activities celebrating this milestone, at Southend Marine Activities Centre on Saturday 16th April, disabled sailors can also try out two specially designed Access 303 dinghies, as well as taking part in the other activities.
There is no need to book for the open day, but you will be asked to register on arrival. Just turn up with a swimsuit, a towel and shoes such as old trainers, which will withstand getting wet.
Wetsuits will be provided and expert guidance will be given by qualified and very experienced Southend Marine Activities Centre instructors.
