Ride Reports MODS Mods Sat 19 Mar 11

Sunshine again this week greeted Jane, Gentle John, Elliott, Martin, Pete, Joey and myself as we headed north. Through Lea Valley Park we see a very large male Muntjac deer, just 10 yards away, who stops and stares as we trickle past.

An interesting clunk from nowhere sounds like a flicked up stone hitting the frame, another hundred yards and a stop to negotiate a gateway and a twang rings out, after investigation, 2 adjacent spokes have snapped! Luckily the wheel has stayed true and feels OK so we push on gently over Holyfield Hill

and on to the Fish and Eels for our first cheesy grin lunch outside in the sunshine this year. Food is a little slow arriving as the pub is heaving and we are sat as far from the bar as possible at the end of the garden. A really comfortable lunch break before we retrace back to Fishers Green and add a few more loops through the park while avoiding the numerous “Polish Picnics” that seem to be everywhere, just wish they would take their ‘empties’ away with them.

Back on the final stretch with 100 yards to go a familiar ping as spoke number three goes, this time the wheel is knocked out of true and the final 50 yards are taken very gently.

Gentle John sticks the bike in the van and drops Jane and I off home and we meet up later at the SH where we link up with Howard, Miles, Wendy and the early returnees from a similar technical traumatic trip to Surrey Hills.
A great day out in the sun and a great group thanks John for the lift and the delivery.
