A grey morning greeted Martin, Michael, Rob, Graham, Neil, Jane and myself.
We set off for a brisk trip southwards towards Docklands as the drizzle began.
Arriving at Springfield Marina the first strange sight of the day a naked man standing in the upstairs window of the café!

Just before the bridge over to Regent’s Canal there was a New Year rave still in full swing on the opposite bank. Sounded like lots of fun. Pushing on past the Olympic site.

First stop 3 Mills Studios then on over Bow Locks were Dave almost fell victim to the slimy road surface arriving at the railings in speedway skid style with back wheel ahead of front wheel.

Second stop Ropemakers Fields, Michael tightens loose rotor bolts with his magic tool kit.

Quick pose with the usual background slowly disappearing in the mist. Then arriving in Wapping to find – disaster – The Captain Kidd is CLOSED! Quick hungry cyclist alert…..find an alternative pub.

After the usual cheesy grin lunch at The Dickens Inn, St Katherine’s dock, more posing at Tower Bridge.

Last pose with the Shard in the background. Returning via Regent’s Canal stopping a couple of times for Rob to add air and gaffer tape to his slow puncture. Back at the River Lee, the rave STILL in full swing and steady drizzle now falling constantly.

Interesting sign! Duhhh it’s a canal!

Final interesting event of the day, blue police tape blocking our route by Markfield Park and Police Officers seemingly fishing someone or something from the river.

Short detour through the rainy back streets of Stamford Hill saw us back on the tow path and soon back at Ponders End, an enjoyable ride if a little damp towards the end. Fantastic ride, fantastic fun, fantastic day!

Debrief at SH with Rads, joined by Dawn, Jed, Ted, James, Sze, Madge, Michael, Howard and Glen. Much hilarity and joke swapping and waxing hints. Happy New Year!
