Mountain Biking in Epping Forest Has Never Been So Good!

MTB riders epping forst

Away Day at Brentwood

MBR (Mountain Bike Riders) over 35 are a group of riders, not a club. As you may have guessed from our name we are mostly over 35 years of age although many that ride are younger.  Think you are old and past it, come along and find out.  We have leisure riders to fast pace racers.  Men and women from all backgrounds who ride Mountain, Road, BMX, Downhill and Endurance bikes.  We ride from slow to fast and everything in between.

The groups regular rides are mainly in Epping Forest which is to the North East of London and as you can see, most Saturdays we get a pretty good turn out.

Check out our ride reports and read about our latest rides in Epping Forest here

When do we ride?

On Saturdays we leave from our start point at the car park in Bury Road, Chingford at 11am (near the golf course) HERE.

We ride for about 4 hours with a lunch stop half way through.  This could be at a cafe, tea shop or pub, depending on how we feel and which route we've taken.

The group are out all year round regardless of rain, snow or ice.

Can you join in?

Yep, post up on the forum, tell us a bit about yourself and then come along.

Rules & Info

We only have one rule "No Helmet, No Ride" and it is strictly enforced so do not ask to join a ride if you are not willing to comply.  We are not a club and when riding with MBRO35 it is important to note that you are not being instructed and you are not insured. All riders participate in the group rides completely at there own risk and should not under any circumstances try to ride beyond their normal capabilities.

Two Groups

We have two groups, both with skilled leaders.  So are you a RAD or a MOD?

RADS

Miles, Steve, Dawn or whoever leads this group.  We meet at the start location at 10.45 for an 11am start, singletrack most of the way.  Pace is just that bit faster than the MODS with some obstacles thrown in.  Distance is just about the same, between 12 and 25 miles dependent on conditions.

MODS

Dave normally leads the MODS.  There are normally around 10 to 15 people in this group.  The ground covered can be a mix of bridleways, singletrack, tow paths or whatever Dave and the group fancy. Starting at 11am, Dave will follow a plan in his head and the rest follow.  The pace is really dependent on those in the group. It could be slow, could be fast, could be up, could be down, but always good fun.

Night rides

Every Wednesday night we head out into the forest with our lights blazing away.  We start at our normal location in the car park.  Meet time is 6.45pm for a 7pm departure.  Singletrack and fast is normally the name/aim of the ride.  Flat out and non-stop.  Yes its hard, but good.  The group gets bigger in the summer when the longer nights start.

We always stop for a beer in the Station House at the end of the ride.  9pm till close, if you can't ride, why not pop in for a chat.

Scummers (road riders)

Scummer came from Ronnie, he just blurted it out one day, "roadies, I call them scummers"  It stuck.  We ride road bikes too, Carbon, Ti, Record, Durace, you name it, we have it.  24, 50, 100 mile loops, normally planned on the forum.  Monday evening 20 mile rides start in early May.

What you need on the ride

Make sure your bike is well maintained and bring a spare tube, a pump and some water.  Some kind soul may be able to help you out if you get into any bother.  Only if you're nice :-)

Post ride debrief

Knackered from  the ride, it’s normally off to the local pub, the Station House, located just across from Chingford Station for beer and food.  The great thing about this pub is that the landlady is top notch.  Bikes are super safe and secure there.  Ask why on your arrival.
